Some young ladies of Othello are primping, practicing and studying hard and they're ready to show off their poise, talent and intelligence. The Distinguished Young Women (DYW) program, formerly Junior Miss, kicked off last week, with contestants starting several weeks of rehearsal that will bring them to the final program, taking place March 15. This year's contestant's include Amaraine Briseno, Sadelle Garza, Melissa Guzman, Morgan Logan, Maren Provost and Zahily Gomez. The winner of the competition will go on to represent Othello at the state DYM competition in Pullman in August. Last year's representative was Brooke Roylance. Othello's DYM will also represent Othello at various parades and events around the Columbia Basin. DYM is open to all girls who are juniors in high school. They compete in the categories of talent, scholastic achievement, fitness, self expression and interview. They will practice two or three times a week before the big program, coordinator Wendy Risenmay said.
