OHS senior ball player gives facelift to home dugout

Othello senior Asaph Garza finished a facelift of the home dugout at the high school’s baseball field, which served as his senior project. Garza built a new and improved bench for the dugout and cut down and replaced the fencing in front of both dugouts.
Othello High School senior Asaph Garza figured it was time for him to give something back to the community that helped raise him for the last 18 years.

District to look into increased PLC time
At the Monday, Feb. 9 school board meeting, OSD superintendent George Juarez explained to the board an endeavor he is undertaking to create a suggestion for board consideration regarding increased Professional Learning Communities (PLC) time for teachers district wide.

New teacher profile: Carli Sowder
The Othello School District welcomed Bellevue native Carli Sowder to its teaching ranks last fall. Sowder teaches three periods of algebra for high school credit and two periods of eighth-grade math at McFarland Middle School.

Othello girls vie to become 2015 DYW
Seven of Othello's high school juniors are in the process of fine-tuning steps, skills and sequences in hopes of capturing the title of Othello's 2015 Distinguished Young Women (DYW). The winner will be decided at this year's DYW event, which will be held March 7 at McFarland Middle School at 7 p.m.

New teacher profile: Mike Acord, OHS
Mike Acord joined the teaching ranks of the Othello School District last fall as a mathematics teacher at Othello High School.
Acord was born and raised in Brewster. Before going to college, he worked at Grand Coulee Dam while the third powerhouse was being built, which he said he enjoyed for a while. After he concluded his work at the dam, Acord started attending Everett Community College, where he earned his associate's degree.

OHS student-athletes finish strong in the classroom
Student-athletes at Othello High School have set a new bar of excellence. For the first time in recent memory, OHS athletic director Don Bullis reported that 100 percent of OHS student-athletes were academically eligible at the same time, as of last Tuesday.
