The Old Hotel Art Gallery is celebrating the Othello Sandhill Crane Festival with a party, a family party.
The gallery will host April's featured artists of the month, a group of five artists from the same family, April 6. The artists include photographer John Clement, sculptor Tom Clement, photographer Paul Clement, painter Barb (Clement) Kassen and artistic weaver Colleen RJC (Clement) Bratton.
Also on April 6, representatives from The Old Hotel will be present at a booth at the high school from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. At the booth, there will be crane books, pictures, jewelry and cards, as well as more information about The Old Hotel itself.
There will also be a wine tasting with Foxy Roxy Winery from 1 to 5 p.m. at the gallery, 33 E. Larch St. There will be wine to sample and hors d'ouvres, as well as bottles to buy.
The Sandhill Crane Festival art show will be judged Friday, April 5. Entries are welcome from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day at the high school. Judging will begin at 6:30 p.m. Entry forms are available at The Old Hotel.
The work of the Clements family will be up all month, but the artists will be on hand April 6 to talk about their work.
John, Tom, Paul and Barb are all siblings. Colleen is John's daughter. They live all across the state and into Idaho, John said, coming from Moses Lake, Kennewick, Seattle, Bothell and Pocatello. The siblings all grew up in Richland.
They all got into art at different times and feature different aesthetics and design styles.
John has been taking pictures since he got out of college. He started with portraits but now only takes landscapes.
"I love doing it and being outside," he said.
Tom also loves being outside. He worked as a wildlife biologist and combines elements found in nature into his pieces. Each one combines wood, stone and metal.
"It's unusual and makes something beautiful," he said.
Barb has been working on her art for about six years, John said, and Colleen started when she was very small. She studied art history at Seattle University.
John has always liked coming to The Old Hotel and has had his work displayed there for many years, he said. He likes helping out a local community organization.
The family has been the featured artists once before, in 2008.
The Old Hotel is doing great things for the people of Othello and he is glad to be working with them, he said.
John's work can be found at and Tom's can be found at
