After months of discussion, the new rates for park facilities are all approved by the city council after their meeting April 8. The new rates are competitive with other similar cities around the state, but are still low enough to help encourage the use of the parks, city parks and recreation coordinator Molly Klippert said. The rates will still keep Othello in the mix when it comes to people who want to host tournaments, she said. The field rental rates for weekend tournaments will be $100 per field, per day, which includes mounds, fencing and maintenances. The tournament hosts can also pay a fee of $800 for the weekend, which includes all the mounds, fencing and maintenance. For league play between Monday and Thursday, the fee is $30 a field per day. The practice rate is $10 an hour per field. To use the concession stand, the rental rate is $200 per event. There is also a $150 application fee for all tournament and league play. It reserves the facility rental date but is applied toward the rental rate as a whole. It is $100 for the key to use the lights. Of that, $90 is a refundable deposit, which will be returned if the key is returned within five days after the last scheduled game.
