Jake, Amy and Stephen Para play on the old abandoned school bus, which was located at the A.O. Lee place. The photo was taken in 1957. Both A.O. Lee and his wife, along with their daughter Helen taught in the Othello schools. Mr. Lee began teaching in 1902 at the Billington School, the first school in the Panhandle of Adams County. Mrs. Lee taught at the Deadman School off what is now Morgan Lake Road around 1915. Helen attended the Othello schools, including Billington, as did the Para children. Compared to the vehicle seen in this photo, school buses are very different today - larger, sleeker and equipped for safety. And with the 2013-14 school year beginning, children will be boarding those modern buses and heading to classes. Bus schedules were printed in last week's Outlook and this past Tuesday's Shopper. Additional copies are available at The Othello Outlook office, 125 S. First Ave.
