The Franklin County Sheriffs Office, with assistance from the Adams County Sheriffs office and Connell Police Department, arrested four suspects from Othello and Eltopia wanted for a series of grass cover and haystack fires beginning March 22 and continuing until the day after. Franklin County officers arrested Arthur Johnson and Teresa Farris, of Othello, along with Nicole Monk and Eli Johnson, of Eltopia, on Blanton Road. Deputies also seized a vehicle. The first grass fire was reported to Adams County Fire District No. 5 at 12:26 p.m. Saturday, March 22, near milepost 46 of Highway 26 and another was reported less than an hour later at South Steele Road. Then, early the next morning, beginning at 12:44 a.m., three haystack fires were reported in a little more than an hour's time beginning at West Cunningham Road and South County Lane and ending at South May Road and West McManamon Road. The Franklin County Sheriffs Office will also investigate a potential connection to multiple arsons that occurred in July 2013. Sheriff Richard Lathim said at least one of the suspects identified in last summer's investigation was picked up in the arrest.
