Othello Christian Church pastor Nan Riddle said more than 1,000 people from across the state visited Othello this weekend to check out the Change the Story by Compassion International presentation near Lions Park over the weekend. For Riddle, it was a huge success as the stories of how ordinary people have helped suffering children in third world countries led to the group raising more than $500 and sponsoring 50 children. Riddle said one young girl even found out she could do something to lend a hand. "One fifth-grade girl who went through told me she thought she might cry all the way through it, but instead, she found herself asking, 'how can I help?'" Riddle said. "I watched people go into the event expecting to change a child's life, but they were the ones who came out changed." The Othello 4-H club made a significant donation of $250 to Compassion International and Riddle would like to thank their members, the First Presbyterian Church, Pilgrim Lutheran Church and other contributing community members for helping to make the weekend a reality.
