Nellie Folsom McRae, 1916 2013

Nellie Folsom McRae went to be with her Lord Dec. 18, 2012, in Mount Vernon.
She was born in Straton, Colo., Dec. 13, 1916, to Harry and Clara Elizabeth Folsom. She attended school in Straton, where she was a star basketball player in high school. She won many spelling bee contests.
She had three brothers and two sisters. Her family all played instruments and sang. Her brothers played in a band where Donald McRae was the leader. Nellie joined the band as lead singer.
She and Don married in 1933 in Atwood, Kan. They became parents to three children. They lived in the Dust Bowl in Kansas and moved to California, Idaho and College Place where they attended Walla Walla (college) University. Don and Nellie were teachers, as well as business owners, with a great work ethic. They helped many people with kindness and love.
Nellie lost the love of her life when her husband Don passed away.
She always had a great sense of humor and loving words to say. Nellie was a lifetime member of The Seventh Day Adventist Faith.
Nellie is survived by her children Ray and Barb McRae, of Mead, Robert and Carol McRae, of Auburn, and Wilma and David Torretta, of Mount Vernon; 10 precious grandchildren; 12 wonderful great-grandchildren; and many friends. We will miss you!
A celebration of Nellie's life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens. The continuation of the celebration will follow the service with a no-host lunch at Bob's Café in Moses Lake at 1 p.m.
