4/9/2013 1:42:00 PM Fresh report from MarDon Resort, April 4
Remember, April 1 is the opener for all of the lakes on the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge, with the exception of Warden Lake, which opens April 27. Gas motors are not allowed on any national wildlife refuge lakes. Most of these lakes are Trout Lakes. One area of highlight is the Hutchinson-Shinner Lakes, which is a warm water species project lake. Hutchinson Lake has quality crappie, bluegill and largemouth bass up to seven pounds. This is a great place for learning to fly fish for warm water species with a float tube or canoe. Rainbow action continues for bank fisherman on Potholes Reservoir using powerbait, Pautskier's eggs and other typical springtime trout bait. As our days and nights begin to warm we can only expect some better bass and walleye fishing, but as of today, it is still very slow. Saturday, March 30, we did hosted an Easter Egg Hunt at MarDon Resort.
